Get To Know: Hunnibee Designs

Justine Durrant

Hannah is really a "hunni" and I have enjoyed chatting to her about this article. Hannah creates gorgeous little polymer clay creations on necklaces and keychains. She also sells mini wedding cakes and gifts.

A word from the designer:

My name is Hannah Khan and I have been a polymer clay artist for about 2 and a half years now.

I started working with clay when I decided I wanted to find a creative way to raise some money for charity, and I began making small charms for keyrings. Following this, I then started up my very first Facebook page and shortly after an Instagram account. I started to post pictures of my work in order to raise money and awareness for the charity I was supporting.

As I continued to make small keyrings and have my very first few customers, this gave me confidence to continue with my designs further. I carried on running this exciting venture whilst studying in my final year at university where I studied surface design. At times, trying to handle the both was quite challenging but really taught me a lot along the way.

It was not until a year into the business did things really start to get serious. I created my own brand and registered my business and was ready to take things to the next level. And without me knowing it was already about to happen.

One of my first customers who is now a very good friend of mine sent me a picture of a wedding cake and asked me to replicate it. I was so excited as I thought it was a brilliant idea and so I did. However, little did I know this one cake model was going to have a ripple effect, and a big one to haha!
Slowly but surely I had lots of different people messaging me with pictures of their cakes too, and as time went buy I was making cake replicas left right and center!

My business is a new one, but I love it, the challenges, the creative community of people for support and the feeling of making people happy! I would not consider myself a professional as I believe I still have so much to learn, but what I can say is I really love what I do and I really feel so lucky to have something I can call my own.

A word from the Maker Heart team:
